Rachel’s paintings are large abstract works, which concentrate more on colour and texture rather than form and composition. Instead of being objective, they are loud, flamboyant pieces which express feelings and emotions in a visual way. Using large amounts of colour, in thick 3-dimensional stabs of paint, the process is at times vulgar and brash, but the outcomes are serene and beautiful. The doors into the world of Abstraction are unlocked by the key of her subconscious, directing her hands to express what her mouth cannot verbalise. The viewer is drawn into each piece and reality starts to dissipate, as their imagination merges with reality. Each painting is an unforeseen journey which the artist and the viewer embark upon, both encountering different experiences.

Rachel prefers to be seen as an Artist first and foremost, and her disability is always secondary. It does not define her, although she is not naive as to believe that it has not had a dramatic impression on her artistic style and an advantage in some Art opportunities. Rachel sees herself not as an inspiration, but hope her work inspires.
